The Stuttgart Ballet Gala 2022

We are delighted to announce that The Stuttgart Ballet Gala will be presented in Tokyo at Tokyo Bunka Kaikan, in March 2022.

After The Stuttgart Ballet's Japan tour originally scheduled for March 2022 was forced to be cancelled, the Company and Japan Performing Arts Foundation have had earnest discussions what we would be able to do. Artistic Director Tamas Detrich and the Company tried to find ways to reach the Japanese audiences and finally decided to bring Gala performances with three different exuberant programs composed of excerpts and works ranging from the Company's legendary masterpieces by John Cranko and Marcia Haydée, works by other great choreographers such as Kenneth MacMillan and John Neumeier, to the latest contemporary pieces among others by the Company's choreographer. In addition, Maurice Béjart's Boléro will be specially danced by Friedemann Vogel with The Tokyo Ballet. Friedemann Vogel and The Stuttgart Ballet are usually permitted to perform the ballet only at their own theater in Stuttgart by the Fondation Maurice Béjart, but the Fondation has given Vogel and The Tokyo Ballet special permission to dance in Tokyo on this occasion with their kind consideration as the Gala will be presented under the difficult circumstances.

Although the participating dancers in the Gala will be limited to six Principal Dancers including Elisa Badenes and Friedemann Vogel and six rising stars of Demi Soloists including the two winners of the Prix de Lausanne, Mackenzie Brown and Gabriel Figueredo, each program is promised to showcase the essence of the artistry of the Company and highlights from its diverse repertoire, and feature the outstanding talents of The Stuttgart Ballet.
