This fall, the Company will have a new creation by a long-awaited Japanese choreographer Saburo Teshigawara as one of the projects to celebrate the Company's 55th anniversary.

Saburo Teshigawara's performances and works have won critical acclaim in Japan and beyond, and he has been invited to perform at major theaters and festivals all over the world. He has also been commissioned to create new works by several world leading ballet companies. For the Paris Opera Ballet, he choreographed three times, and every time his work caused an international sensation. For the creation for The Tokyo Ballet, he has chosen music by the world-renowned Japanese composer Toru Takemitsu. The fusion among the Japanese talents is expected to create a globally appreciated dance.

The other features of the triple bill are George Balanchine's Serenade set to Tchaikovsky's music which opened up a new era in ballet in the United States, and Maurice Béjart's masterpiece Le Sacre du printemps set to revolutionary music of Stravinsky. The triple bill will be an exciting showcase for The Tokyo Ballet.

In today's surroundings, the difference between truth and falsehood is hard to tell.
We are living in a world of suspicion.
Wanting to touch uncertain, incomprehensible, mysterious something, fundamental desire = desire for existence.
I think that music of Toru Takemitsu has the same quality.

Serenade

Choreography George Balanchine
Music Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky

Danced to Tchaikovsky's soaring score Serenade for Strings in C Major, in the pale blue moonlight, Serenade is a milestone in the history of ballet. It was the first ballet created by great master George Balanchine in America in 1934. And it still feels innovative and refreshing to the audiences with its romantic flowing steps in harmony with music, unexpected brisk motion and ever-changing formation. Loved by audiences and dancers alike since its premiere, it has been presented by many of the ballet companies worldwide.

Le Sacre du printemps

Choreography Maurice Béjart
Music Igor Stravinsky

Le Sacre du printemps was born amidst the whirlwind of Ballet Russes legend in 1913. Many choreographers have since attempted the same Stravinsky's score, one of the most important works in the modern history of music. Maurice Béjart's Le Sacre du printemps is considered to be a masterpiece which succeeded in vivid visualization of the music of Stravinsky by depicting human's desires, brutality and struggle.
